Sophie's cottage is tucked into a shady grove, and the interior is resplendent with vintage furnishings like a roomy clawfoot tub and antique stained glass window in the bathroom, and a big metal-framed queen-sized bed that's just perfect for two guests. The kitchenette includes a regular coffee pot and mini fridge, and the fridge is stocked with complimentary beverages. Additionally, all bed and bath linens are also provided. There's a box AC and heating unit for your comfort, and for your entertainment there's a regular TV and stereo unit with a CD player. The remote location of Sophie's Cottage means there is no Wifi service, and only intermittent cell coverage; please keep this in mind when you plan your stay here.

Such a great little getaway. The location felt remote and peaceful and the cottage was cozy and very clean. Lots of snacks/breakfast items were available. It was a very hot day but the cottage was perfectly cool and comfortable. The host was there to greet us and she was very kind. The area is great for star gazing. So fun to see the Longhorns just a few feet away! Definitely would recommend staying here. Hope to go back one day!

This was a great little get away from Austin! The farm is awesome, tucked away from the main road with wandering chickens, long horns, a cat and a horse. All of the animals were friendly and fun to have around. The views were incredible at all times of day. Be sure to catch a sunset! The cottage is cute, very clean and stocked with awesome breakfast foods and drinks. There is very little cell phone service which made for a great break from the every day phone pinging. Location is about fifteen minutes from downtown Bandera (there is a river to swim in downtown), 45 minutes from Lost Maples (with a beautiful drive to get down there), one hour or so from Garner State Park and there are a few wonderful wineries between the farm on the way to Fredricksburg. The host checked in with us shortly after we arrived to make sure we had everything we needed and offered tips for the stuff around to do. Overall a great experience and would happily go back!

I have stayed at The Last Outpost twice and have loved it both times! Joan, the owner, has been very welcoming and accommodating each time. I loved being greeted by all of the animals on the property- such a fun experience!

We loved Sophie's cottage at the Last Outpost. The cottage was quaint and comfortable and the seating area in the front yard was enjoyable. It is a working cattle ranch so we loved watching the impressive longhorns and their calves. They were very sociable, as were the chickens. The hosts were helpful and fun to talk to, especially about ranch life. Try to arrive before dark as the entrance to the property may be hard to find on the country road. It is close enough to visit Bandera and other towns and sites, but also isolated enough to be immersed in the beautiful countryside

As a writer who travelled with an artist, I have nothing but admiration for the cottage. The owner was completely pleasant, overall a wonderful woman who spoke with us and made sure we were safe. The property was absolutely magnificent, the cows and the chickens wake you up but it’s a beautiful sound. I hope to visit again and revisit the inspiration I was hit with upon arrival to the cottage.
