Description

This region of the Hill Country was set aside to protect the Edwards Aquifer, which provides water to San Antonio. The Government Canyon State Natural Area, just 20 miles southeast of Lakehills, also serves as a place for visitors to recharge! Over 40 miles of trails allow guests to take in the pristine nature being preserved here, and there’s also a pavilion folks can reserve for larger gatherings. Be sure to check out the dinosaur tracks, the children’s playscape, and the original Zizelmann House, built here in 1882! Government Canyon is open Friday to Monday, 7 AM to 10 PM, and admission for adults 13 and up is $6.
