D’Hanis Bricks

Architectural history, right in the Hill Country!

Description

The ground around D'Hanis, maybe not so much to look at with the naked eye, hides a great architectural secret! It's some of the best brick-making clay in the country. Since 1895, D'Hanis has become famous for the bricks stamped with "D'HANIS," though the odd name sometimes leads to confusion. You'll find them in historical structures throughout Texas and beyond; for example, the elevator shafts in the Empire State Building are lined with D'Hanis bricks. The D'Hanis Brick & Tile Company has been making these famous bricks since 1905, and are just as active today as ever. Keep your eyes peeled for their handiwork!
