Description

D'Hanis was originally founded in 1847, and all was well and good for a few decades. However, when the Galveston, Harrisburg, and San Antonio Railroad came through in 1881, it wasn't quite close enough for the town of D'Hanis to take advantage of. Their solution? The town moved one mile west, creating what is sometimes called "New D'Hanis." The Old D'Hanis Cemetery and St. Dominic Catholic Church stand as a reminder of "Old D'Hanis," as the original town site came to be known. Not only is this site historically significant, but the classic European lettering and artistry on the stones here are beautiful to see.
