Formerly known as the Rockin' River Ranch, the Lightning Bug Springs Retreat is located just west of Concan and the tubing, swimming, and fishing fun of the Frio River. Fascinating Hill Country towns like Leakey, Vanderpool, and Utopia are close by, too. Miles of country roads in the vicinity set the stage for a scenic car or bike tour of the Hill Country, and the popular Garner State Park is just a few miles away.

The centerpiece of the Retreat is the pavilion, which features a kitchen with a stove, two refrigerators, an ice machine, and plenty of meal prep space. The kitchen has a concession stand-style window and counter, where folks can get a plate and chow down while they chat and watch the smart TV in the covered picnic area. Grilling aficionados will love showing off their skills in the charcoal smokers here! For even more convenience, the pavilion is equipped with a handy half-bath, too.

Beyond the pavilion, there's tons more to do outdoors on the grounds of the Retreat! Chairs surround the swimming pool, so you can relax when you aren't having a splashing cool-down. There are recreational facilities galore for all ages here, ranging from tree swings to horseshoe pits. Feel like a game of volleyball, soccer, or tether ball? There's space and equipment for that here, too! Watch the sunset and enjoy a pleasant evening of s'mores and conversation around the fire pit...and take a look up, too; the night skies are fantastic out here!

Pathways crisscross the 15 acres of the property, running between the buildings and down to the river's edge. This tributary is known as the "Dry Frio," however, it's been dammed so there's a nice swimming hole for your folks to enjoy. Big, beautiful oaks dot the grounds, providing shade and numerous family photo opportunities.

The "living quarters" at the Retreat consists of six buildings: The Lodge, Rio Vista, Gone Fishin'  and Lone Star Cabins, and the Cowboys and Indians bunkhouses. All the buildings feature decks and patios that open up to inspiring views of the surrounding Hill Country, and also offer more private outdoor spaces. Every building has its own BBQ grill and plenty of outdoor furniture for open-air relaxation.

All the interior spaces are tastefully decorated, and kept comfortable with AC and heating. The Lodge, Rio Vista, and the cabins include full kitchens with appliances, utensils and cookware-and don't forget the huge kitchen facility at the pavilion! Every living space but the bunkhouses has living and dining spaces and Wifi service. Smart TVs with cable are installed in the Lodge and Rio Vista, and for added convenience, the Lodge and Rio Vista have laundry rooms.
